India joins 35 countries

India has contributed $37.64 million to the United Nations Regular Budget for the year 2025. The payment, made on January 31, fulfills India's financial obligation to the UN, as per the organization’s financial regulations, which require member states to pay their regular assessments within 30 days of the due date. This contribution places India among the 35 countries that have paid their assessments in full and on time.

According to the UN Committee on Contributions, 35 countries had fulfilled their financial commitments by the end of January 2025. These nations are placed on the “honour roll” for their compliance with the UN's financial regulations. The regular budget funding is vital for the operational costs of the UN, supporting its programs in areas such as peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance, and development.

The payment contributes to the UN's core activities, including peace and security efforts, disarmament, human rights advocacy, climate action, and global health initiatives. The UN’s financial structure relies on the timely and complete payment of assessed contributions from its member states. India has consistently met its obligations in the past, reflecting its active role in supporting the organization’s goals and ensuring its operational continuity.

The UN Regular Budget finances a range of initiatives and operations, with assessments allocated based on the Gross National Income (GNI) of each member state. India’s contribution is part of a broader financial commitment to the UN system, which is crucial for maintaining its credibility and functionality. Timely payments by member states are essential to avoid disruptions in UN operations and to ensure that the organization can continue to address global challenges effectively.

As of January 31, India joined 34 other countries in making their full payments, ensuring that the UN can maintain its work on issues including conflict resolution, poverty alleviation, education, and disaster relief. The UN’s financial stability is largely reliant on the prompt payment of assessments by its member states, and India’s contribution supports the sustainable functioning of the United Nations.
